Team Members at work
Diane and Stefan begin setup on one of the several single station forming machines. Out of the camera shot, another team member is timing and videotaping the setup in preparation for a setup reduction Kaizen. These events are to identify any wasted time, motion, or equipment. Any waste recognized will be eliminated, the results analyzed and proven. The change then becomes the new standard of setup, until the next time.

Setup complete and the machine in operation, Diane removes a part which will become a shower unit. Each raw part is carefully inspected prior to being separated from the sheet and the beginning of processing into a finished part. Any defects are corrected immediately thus ensuring only good parts are moved through the line. |

Along the way, each step in the process is scrutinized by the team member prior to passing it on to the next step ensuring any defects are identified as early in the process as possible. Our cellular manufacturing cells are a completely different entity when compared to traditional manufacturing environments. Manufacturing departments in a traditional plant environment perform a specific operation or task (ie: grinding, milling, or assembly) utilizing workers who have developed a single skill or craft. Manufacturing cells, however, are designed to provide complete products to an internal customer (another manufacturing cell) or external customers (you). Cells perform several operations or tasks and require a multi-skilled flexible group of workers. In the manufacturing organization, cells produce products ranging from complete components (ie; showers, boxes, etc) to any range of sub-assemblies. By definition, a manufacturing cell is a focused team of individuals and equipment which is organized and empowered to provide a complete product to either an internal or external customer when the customer requires it, in the correct quantity, with zero defects. Our cellular manufacturing organization is flat when compared to traditional plant hierarchy to improve communication and provide an unobstructed flow of information throughout the system Our manufacturing plant has one layer of management (the Cell Leader) between the Plant Manager and the team member. Each work cell acts as an individual small business which allows for a more focused team of employees with the same goal, customer service and satisfaction from start to finish with no outside direction. The work cell is focused solely on their customers and in providing the most cost-effective, high quality product, period. The results.......the customer continually benefits by reduced costs, shorter lead times, better quality and the knowledge that you are getting the absolute best value for your dollar.
